The Future of Classroom Education Is Here
The success of teaching has always been based on the theory of lighting a fire and not filling a bucket and as the way young people interact continues to become more and more virtual thanks to social networking sites and the like, it is essential that classroom education at least keeps up, at best stays one step ahead.
Technology in the classroom has come on leaps and bounds in the last few years, but it has yet to be rolled out across the board, and this is the aim of those organisations that understand the importance of virtual interaction to providing a successful education to people of all ages and abilities. Gone are the days when writing sentences, formulas and facts on a black board in chalk classed as a good way to teach children. Instead teachers are now encouraged to use interactive whiteboards and student response systems to ensure that technology-focused children, teenagers, and adults are taught in a way that they understand, enjoy and can engage with easily.
As well as getting through the contents of a set curriculum, teachers need to create tailored lesson programmes to ensure that they are delivering relevant information in an engaging way, based on the assessment of pupil response to techniques and resulting marks in tests, exams, coursework and homework. To do this teachers need a way of assessing the response to certain teaching methods within each subject and student response systems can offer exactly that. These devices allow students to respond to questions and to interact with each other without having to leave their desks. They also turn standard multiple choice questions into questions that allow students to respond in a wide variety of different ways, from full sentences and numbers, to likes, dislikes and symbols.
Other devices available allow teachers to easily and quickly set the difficulty level of each question based on the ability of the student and can alter the length of time given to complete the assignment for the same reason. This technology in the classroom complements the idea that everybody learns at a different pace and until now, without these student response devices and interactive whiteboards, it has been virtually impossible to teach in such a way as to allow some scope for this.
