The Immense And Impressive Territory Of Russia

With a mighty area of over 7,200,000 square miles

, the land of Russia is the most massive in the world in terms of the amount of ground it includes. This land is nestled in Eurasia so it includes much of both Asia's North and Eastern Europe. Due to its remarkable land area, there is an amazing level of differentiation in terms of temperatures, climate and which plants are growing in a given region. To get the concept of precisely how big Russia is, a realistic comparison is thinking of it as more than twice the size of the United States. That means it stretches across one eighth of this entire planet's total dry land. With over 35,000 miles of border area to keep watch over, the Federation controls the the globe's longest border. Over 60 percent of that area is actually next to an ocean or a sea, with 13 seas and three oceans at the edge of this enormous land.

Russia has many different kinds of climate that each contain their own type of terrain and weather associated with them. At the top border of this land lies a land zone called the tundra, a dry and frigid type of climate wherein life struggles to survive and even trees find it difficult to keep growing. After this, comes a region called taiga, a word that refers to extremely cold forested areas of evergreen trees composed of needles in place of leaves. This area, too, (plays host to|is home to|supports} precious few life forms other than particular plants and animals that can survive intensely difficult conditions created by the incredible rising and plummeting temperatures as the seasons change. The steppe region is is plains or grasslands that stretch out over a tremendous territory and provide much of the strength of food production which Russia has the ability to provide for not only to itself, but the whole world. There is an arid zone as well, towards the south of Russia where there are actual deserts, a truth which quite a few people are totally unaware of.

There are also major distinctions in altitude all over Russia. There are a lot of mountain ranges, some are greatly famous such as the Ural Mountains and Caucasus Mountains. In some of these areas volcanic activity can still occur and earthquakes are unusual, but sometimes they happen. For many centuries the mountains served as a way to slow down incoming armies and keep the people in the land guarded from invaders. The great number of rivers within Russia have also served to allow for not only a means for citizens to fish, but to use for boats, also. Lake Baikal is not just the deepest freshwater lake on this continent, it is the deepest on the planet.

When it comes to gorgeous landscapes, this area offers such a wide range of terrain, climates, flora and fauna that any traveler can find something to love. It is an amazing region with so much to see and plenty to delve into.
