The New National Security Plan Will Focus On Domestic Terrorism

The new US National Security Plan focuses more on preventing homegrown acts of terror rather than attempting to eradicate terror worldwide

. I have talked about this very issue in previous posts in my blog and I have expounded on many of the factors that I believe that this new directive also takes into account. It just makes more sense to me and obviously to our policymakers in Washington D.C. I will expound on a few of the reasons why I think that it makes more sense in this article.

First of all if we believe that we can eliminate worldwide terror then we are living in a pipe dream. We will never eradicate terror or terrorists worldwide. If we continue to try to do so I believe that all that we will do is to continue to spread ill will around the world. When we send troops to another country we seem to cause the terror organizations in that country to scatter into other parts of the world. When they do so they spread their terrorist ideas and agenda of hate to the residents of that country. Since they are so passionate about what they believe they are bound to make converts, thus our actions to eradicate terror organizations seems to only cause them to grow.

In the meantime we are wasting billions of taxpayer dollars and countless young American lives pursuing worldwide terror organizations. Terrorists were content at one time to face us in the countries where we sent troops to fight them. The good thing about this is that it kept the fighting away from the United States. Terrorists were fighting trained troops with the most sophisticated equipment in the world rather than innocent civilians with no combat experience or special equipment.

The native citizens of the countries that we go into don't perceive us as a savior but as an aggressor. They don't know why we are there and they are fed a steady stream of propaganda against us. This propaganda seems to be successful when I look at the news and see the overt hatred that many foreigners exhibit towards our military. My answer to that is that we should just leave them alone. I saw many of the acts of civilians after Saddam Hussein was toppled in Iraq and many times I saw no appreciation for what our military had done.

If we continue to try to fight terror all over the world we will bankrupt this country. We simply cant do it. It is a never ending battle with small units which are intimately aware of the terrain and conditions that we have to fight them in. This puts us at an inherent disadvantage. The cost of technology alone which we have had to develop to fight this different type of warfare has been staggering. This doesnt account for the billions of dollars wasted with bad contracts. Nor does it account for the money required just to transport and maintain a military force at war.

We need to use our overburdened military to focus on keeping terror out of this country. Our border with Mexico requires immediate attention. We can also use a scaled down military force along with existing government agencies to keep an eye on domestic terror cells. Guarding our own borders keeps us from wasting valuable resources overseas. It is also easier to do and less costly to do since it eliminates the costs associated with equipping and maintaining a military over a distance of thousands of miles. The logistics is much simpler because it is such a smaller scale operation. The time will come when we will have to strike at terror cells and organizations overseas. When this happens it should be in the form of limited strikes. Moving a large force will not be necessary, nor will it be necessary to maintain that force over long distances. In addition our forces will have the advantage of being on the home field. Such an operation should be an active defensive operation and not passive. When I use the term active I mean that we should continue to do all that we can to search out and destroy dangerous terror cells worldwide rather than just sit back and wait on attacks to occur on US soil. The difference is that we wont deploy so much military force to do so.

Keep in mind that this strategy will put the logistics burden of equipping and maintaining a force over a large distance squarely on the back of the terrorist organizations with which we are at war because if they want to attack Americans they will have to attempt to come here to do so.

Our military ring customers will be hard pressed to continue operations the way that they are going now. We need to free them up to focus more on National Defense rather than on chasing terrorists around the world. Military Ring Express
