The Obnoxious - Biography - Winter of a new decade
People claim they are clones of the gods and have come to earth to bring a message. Others say they come from Hell, without delay (straight from Hell, so to say). People have been frightened at the sight of them, people have been abused by them and people have certainly been annoyed by them.
But that is all rubbish. Actually, the band consists of five guys, indulging in an occasional outburst of punk. Because, my dear friend, no matter how decent you are, there is always a beast, dormant in your very veins, ready to awake at the sound of loud, I daresay, VERY loud music. The Obnoxious are host to such beasts. Beasts of metal, punk, hardcore or whatever kind of loud music.
And that is what The Obnoxious is all about. LOUD FN MUSIC !
This band crawled ashore on the muddy banks of the river Styx in 1989. Five guys wished to cross that stream by boat, but Charon proved deceitful and tipped the boat (he couldn't stand their behaviour). So they swam to the other side and kicked their music out into the unsuspecting masses. It was loud, it was limitless, brutal and sarcastic.
Bandmembers came and went, except for a core of die-hard members. Eventually the base for success was laid when Aschwin joined the band. His anarchic guitar playing put the band on another level. Song structures changed and suddenly the band sounded more mature. When Arie joined the band later that year (1646 a.d.), the line up seemed to be complete: Dim on drums, Aschwin on guitar, Marc on bass and Arie on vocals. They recorded the band's first landmark: No end to it.
Praised by many, criticised by some, the band started touring the Netherworld. No club was safe from this vicious attack of brutal hardcore metal punk rock n groove. They took other, young and starting bands with them whenever they could, trying to promote their scene wherever they went.
Early 1996 the band started to work on the next album. Aschwin had to leave the band due to personal circumstances and was replaced by Leo. With this line-up the c.d. Struggle was written and recorded. The band took their music to a next stage with this album. Influences from all across the music scene were incorporated in the tunes. The all-time favourite track: Rotterdamn-it! features a choir of bandmembers from every meaningful band at the time in Rotterdam. That is what The Obnoxious are all about.
During the extensive touring after the release of this c.d. Aschwin got his act together and rejoined the band. Finally, The Obnoxious found their ultimate form. The best gigs in their lifetime were done by this line-up:
Arie the growler / Dim the drummer / Noisy Aschwin / Marc the hammerman / The beast in Leo
The band however, started to become weary. Lots of energy were put into their performances and recordings and this eventually wore the band out. So they decided to record all the songs they had never recorded till then and take a long vacation.
And so they did. People searched the Netherworld, but could not trace them. Some say they returned to the wasteland where they had emerged from, some say they left by space shuttle to their home between the stars. CIA spokesmen have always denied they had any information concerning the whereabouts of the five subjects.
But here we are, dear reader, face to face. The Obnoxious have returned from the dark depths. They have even brought their guitars and amps. Earth is facing another age of war and mayhem, so The Obnoxious wish to join the havoc.
