The Preferred Resume Format For New Graduates

As a new graduate, you may be a bit doubtful if you can easily land a job because you know you dont have any professional experience yet

. But actually, there are lots of opportunities that await you. You just have to find a career that suits your qualifications. In looking for one, it is important to consider your skills and talents that may meet the employers requirements and standard.

If you have no employment experience yet or no achievements at all, you may just include skills that are necessary for the job you are applying for. Also, keep in mind that the all employers are looking for applicants who have a good working attitude, are motivated, and possess leadership skills. Come up with a good application document following either of these two resume formats:

Chronological Format

This is the best format for new graduates who already have professional experience. It focuses more on the achievements and goals you have achieved recently. This is the most common and yet the conventional way of writing an application summary. Preferred by many, this sequential styleallows hiring managers to easily review each resume. In writing the employment history section, try to trim down the list of experiences and include only those relevant and most recent ones.

Functional Format

This focuses more on your skills or abilities. This arrangementis recommended to those who have little or no experience in the field theyre applying to. It accentuates more on strengths and academic successes. It is applicable for new graduates who are trying to secure their very first job.

In either of these resume formats, the following are the required sections in a pre-employment document:

Header

Above anything else, the full name of the applicant is written at the top of the page. Do not forget to put your contact information so that the hiring manager can reach you. It is important to ensure that the phone numbers provided are still functioning so the employer can easily communicate with you. Include the address where you are currently living. Providing an active e-mail address is also needed to be written in the header section.

Objective

This is only optional. Here, you have to make one or two sentences about your goals from which the company can get benefits out of your employment.

Career Summary

This is a section where you include the list of your educational achievements, skills, traits, and abilities. Highlight more on these especially if you didnt have any employment history yet. Include your computer skills, which are most in-demand for some job posts today. Good communications skills are also frequently sought by most of the employers.

Educational Background

Include the university or school where you graduated. Also include the year when you have successfully completed your certificate or degree.

Whatever resume format you may prefer, it is still best to show the employer that you stand out among all applicants. Focus on the specific job you are applying for, rather than patterning your copy froman obsolete document you may have seen in the Internet. Never forget to proofread your summary section before submitting it to the hiring manager. Choose a simple and not too fancy font style. Also, do not include any irrelevant pieces of information that may ruin your application. These include political affiliation and religious views. Just be honest and truthful in producing a resume that will hopefully land you into a desired job.
