The Reasons Military Technology Changes

There are many reasons that warfare and technology must continually change

. We will discuss a few of them here. The first thing is that in warfare each participant wants to maintain the edge or advantage which will help to overcome the adversary. Wars are fought with the intention of winning. When you are serious about winning you will do everything that you possibly can to overcome.

Warfare is the most intense dynamic confrontation possible. In warfare someone will live and someone will die. The country which insures that its troops have every possible physical, mental, emotional, and technological edge is the country that will win. Now lets go on using this information as our background.

The first confrontations between humans on a battlefield were man on man type confrontations where the strongest usually won. If you couldnt out muscle your opponent you had to psyche him out by demonstrating that you had little or no regard for anyones life.

Have you ever heard of the term Going beserk? The term came from a hostile group on ancient European fighters known as the Beserkers. They were totally ruthless when it came to combat. They would charge you yelling and screaming at the top of their lungs. They incited fear in all of their enemies. They were also very powerful and skilled with their weapons. Now how do you defeat an army of fighters such as this? The answer is that you develop tactics which will take away their strengths. Since they were stronger than the average fighter long range weapons had to come into play. The long range spear or bow and arrow took away the strength advantage that these fighters had in one on one confrontation.

Ultimately weapons were produced from metal such as knives, maces, swords, and spears. The advent of the gun and gunpowder gave the advantage to the person who had the gun. Now better guns had to be created to beat out the models on hand. Guns were made to be easier to load and fire. The muzzle loader was replaced by the rifle with a firing chamber. The lead ball was replaced by the rifled projectile etc.

Warfare has become multifaceted and multidimensional these days. The rifleman on the ground depends on the fighter pilot to give him air support. That fighter pilot has a wide array of various support air craft at his disposal to help him to accomplish his job. In addition fighters have to be fitted with various types of ammunition to help them accomplish specific tasks.

Warfare now extends from the depths of the ocean all of the way into space. Weapons can use every thing from projectiles, to laser light, to radio waves to do their damage. Weapons systems are no longer small individual devices but systems which all use a wide range of various technologies to do their job.

Warfare consists of much more than just destroying the enemy now. There is such a thing as psychological warfare. In this type warfare you want to destroy the persons will to resist or live.

In addition chemicals, drugs, biological agents, and nuclear arms are used in warfare. These can be used massively of toned down in order to accomplish a specific function. Warfare seems to have evolved to its highest possible level but I am sure that the people who plan for our nations security will be able to come up with more wrinkles to include.
