The Reasons We Should Use Natural Energy In Our Homes
The Reasons We Should Use Natural Energy In Our Homes
1. Natural energy is good for the planet. Renewable energy sources reduce the country's dependency on outside influences. Oil and gas are not renewable energy. Once they are used, they are gone. Each homeowner can extend the lifespan of non-renewable energy sources by using renewable energy at home.
2. Geothermal energy is renewable. A ground source heat pump (geothermal energy) relies on the natural heat found in the earth to generate energy.
3. Geothermal energy saves money. Because a ground source heat pump is more energy efficient than other heat and cooling sources, homeowners will see a reduction in their energy bills. Geothermal energy is more than fifty percent more efficient than standard heating systems, and more than twenty percent more efficient than standard cooling systems.
4. Geothermal energy is versatile. A ground source heat pump can save energy heating a home's hot water. Through the use of a desuperheater, geothermal energy preheats the water tank, saving money for the homeowner.
5. Geothermal energy can be free. If one's home happens to be near a source of low- to moderate-temperature water, that source can be tapped to provide heating for one's home. As long as the water temperature is within the range of twenty degrees Celsius to one hundred and fifty degrees Celsius, it can be used for home heating.
6. Biomass energy is as old as fire itself. When the first human beings discovered that they could stay warm through the night by burning wood, they invented biomass energy. Today, such energy is captured in one's home through a wood pellet stove, ethanol fuel for one's automobile, and the use of recycled plastics.
7. Hydrogen is everywhere. Hydrogen is a natural element that is usually found in combination with other elements, such as the combination of hydrogen and oxygen in water. One can separate the hydrogen through electrolysis (the use of electricity) or reforming (the use of heat). Hydrogen can fuel one's home, provide power for one's vehicle, and generate electricity.
8. A stream is a cash flow. Homeowners who have flowing water on their property such as a stream can install a micro hydropower system. This system harnesses the energy of the flowing water to generate electricity. Much like the old water wheels used to power mills; the modern micro hydropower system can power a home.
9. Let the sun shine in. Solar power, either passive or active, saves energy and money. A passive solar system relies on the home's design to make the best use of daylight to heat and light one's home. An active solar system relies on a series of panels to capture and store the sun's energy to provide electricity day and night.
10. Capture the breeze. Windmills have provided power for years to pump water and grind grain. A small-scale wind electric system harnesses the energy of the wind to power one's home.
