The Six Essential Questions You Need To Ask Yourself When Selecting A Pool
Its undeniable that a backyard swimming pool is part of the Australian dream
. Its also undeniable that there are hundreds of options, from packages to providers to design that you must pick from to make your swimming pool dream a reality. The fun of a swimming pool goes beyond the basic checklist of shape, water, fence, decking and pool cleaners, so we put together this list of the questions you must know the answers to when buying a pool.
Whats your budget? This is probably the least exciting but most important question you need to know the answer to. Swimming pools cost thousands, and there is no limit to what they can cost especially if youre hiring a designer or a landscaper as well as a construction team. Or are you going to make it yourself? Budget is also critical is assessing quality.
What kind of quality is your pool going to be? Is it going to be state of the art, best money can buy? Is it going to be as cheap as possible but from a reputable company? Once your pool is built, what accessories and cleaning materials will you invest in? Will your fence be strong and budget, or beautiful and probably bit pricier? Of critical money saving importance is how quality is your pool pump, your pool cleaner and your pool cover, because investing in pool maintenance will save you thousands.
Why are you building a pool? Is it for recreation or fitness? Do you want a standard pool or a long lap pool? If the pool is for your family, do you need big steps for sitting on, and for little ones to splash on? Knowing why youre building the pool will help you design and position the pool well. For example, if its for entertaining youll need some outdoor dining and BBQ space rather then a garden eaten up entirely by a pool.
What kind of pool? Is your pool going to be sunken in the ground or above ground? Generally sunken pools are more expensive but more attractive and sustainable whilst above ground pools are cheaper and safer. A key sub question here is whether you want a salt-water or a fresh-water pool. Salt-water pools require less week to week maintenance, but are more expensive. Freshwater pools are cheaper and easier to install, but do require some extra attention to keep the water ideally healthy.
Realistically, how much time will you be able to spend maintaining the pool? If you and your partner, or fellow pool owners work long hours, you probably dont want a pool thats going to eat up a lot of free time with cleaning. Investing in pool covers and pool cleaners is an early decision that if made wisely, will save you a lot of time later.
How important is the pools look to you? Some people just want something economical to splash about it with their family. But many people want a pool thats doesnt clash with their garden, and lots of people are increasing opting for a pool that looks gorgeous. Decide how important the aesthetic value of your pool is to you, and invest accordingly.
