The future of harnessing energy?

The future of harnessing energy?
Having read about how sharpening a pencil in a machine with a handle that once you have a nice pointy pencil you also have a pencil sharpener which is charged with enough energy to produce light.
This process really got us at Eco Friendly Technology thinking about why this is not used in many other ways. Remembering the Dynamo light which were charged up by the wheel on your bike turning giving you enough light to ride home safely with out the worry of he batteries running out. We decided to try and come up with other ways in which energy could be harnessed to ensure that our daily activities produce energy.
Some of our ideas below are little of the wall, however they hopefully spark some suggestions and discussion. This is also a very good time to add that these are initial ideas and there could well be teething and health and safety problems, however at this stage it is more about ideas.
Thinking about how the shake torch generates power by the act of shaking. If this idea is taken further by using the house its self as the generator so instead of storing the energy to light a bulb in the torch, what if the energy from everyday actions were stored in a house individual grid to use when required.
Imagine how much power could be secured with out any additional effort. Just by a little forward planning in the building of a house. It could also save loads on the electricity bills.
Here are some examples of how this could be achieved:
Each door in a house must be opened and closed a lot during a day. If the energy or motion from the door handle moving up and down as well as the shake for the when the door is slammed shut could be stored in a unit to be used once needed.
In the bathroom, like the door the flush handle could produce electricity to be stored, The toothbrush get shaken, like the torch, if this had a battery system inside that charged as each person scrubbed their teeth the house could receive even more energy. Once the teeth are sparkling the brush can be placed back in its house in-socket. I envisage a lot like a plug socket which takes electricity from the national grid, these could be giving energy sockets. Or this could be taken further using charging mats, which can charge items that lay on them. Imagine if this worked in reverse where you place charged up devices on a mat to send electricity back to the houses electricity grid.
With these mats or sockets in mind we could also have batteries inside our pens that charges from the movement of when we write, draw or scribble and when we finished we simply lay it on the mat for the house to receive the charge. This could also work for cutlery, which is being move up and down to the mouth or backwards and forwards to cut. In fact every item which is moved with vigour could store a charge that once place down on the giving mat send its charge to the house. These items could be a hammer, saw or running shoes to name a few.
Like the doors being connected to a house grid input system charging it by being opened and closed, we could also have mattresses plugged in so stored charge energy from rolling around on it in the night. The steps of the stairs or carpets could be a charging force for the house from the pressure of each footstep. If you were lucky enough to have a gym in your house just imagine what sort of energy you could produce to add to your personal grid.
I am sure behaviourist would find this system, of supplying electricity to your own how through saving energy produced by the body, very interesting. An example of this is that every person may decide that instead of shutting every door from now on the will slam it because it will generate more energy for the house or that every piece of cutlery is shaken 10 times before putting on the home charging mat. People with Obsessive Compulsive Disorder may well increase or a one for luck mentality' may develop when flushing the toilet. There are many ways this system may change behaviour, however this different way of helping to store electricity and save money needs more discussion as to how it could, if ever be implemented, work.
There is a lot of kinetic energy from our bodies and actions that are wasted and if properly harnessed from the billions of people in the world could make a huge difference to our planet and may even allow us enough breathing space to move away from nuclear and non renewable sources for good. We are always being told at the moment that tidal, wind and solar would not produce enough on its own to support the country. In these early stages of this future vision' this could change all of that.
