When buying a dog bed there are several things to take into consideration. You can buy a much larger one if your dog is as a puppy, so that your dog will be able to grow into it. This is the most cost effective option but also has its downside effects. First off, it will be too large for the puppy and might overwhelm him. Also, puppies are prone to having accidents and if you invest in a larger dog sleeping bed and your puppy soils it, you will then have to replace it. Sometimes it's a good idea to buy a cheaper, smaller one for puppy and buy a nicer, larger and permanent one once your dog grows to its full size.

You might also want to move the bedding to a different location within your home from time to time. You would want to be able to get a new cover to match in with the style of the new room.

You will also consider the way your dog likes to sleep when picking out bed for him. Some dogs prefer to stretch out and would do better with plenty of space for them to take up. This is especially true of smaller dogs. Larger dogs tend to prefer to feel more enclosed, as it leads to feelings of safety. If you've noticed your dog usually sleeps curled or with its back up against something, you might consider the one that is closer to your dog's actual size. Dogs that prefer to feel enclosed will usually like an area with higher sides as well as it'll help the dog to feel even safer and more enclosed.
