Three New Years Vows That Are Challenging To Carry Out

Every year, millions of people set out to make a change in their lifestyle that improves them in one form or another

. Yes, the new year's resolution is as popular as it's ever been in 2010, and many vows have been made to drop old habits of the past and bring in new and improved ones.

There are some smaller changes that people make that may take little effort. Others are a bit more drastic. Let's take a look at some of the bigger ones that also happen to be harder to keep.

How about the people who say they'll no longer smoke cigarettes? You probably know someone who's made this claim. Perhaps they've made it during the course of several years.

Many people unfortunately cave into temptations after a week or two, sneaking in one cigarette that ultimately turns into more.

Another popular new year's resolution is the commitment that people make to get into shape. Whether they're looking to lose weight or build more muscle, many people make great efforts to set off the new year on a new foot.

It's never uncommon for me to see the gym more crowded with some new faces during the first few weeks of the year. I would imagine this comes from that very change people are looking to make in their lives.

Then there are the people who swear that they'll cut back on their hours at work, as having fun will climb up their list of priorities.

As much as we'd all love to relax, this one isn't entirely in our power. Our employers often dictate the hours we need to devote to our jobs, and we simply need to spend time working in order to make a living.

While all of these things should be doable at some point, a lot of it all depends on timing. It's hard to force our will upon ourselves simply because of the time of year. We can accomplish these things at any point in time, and we should never be afraid to make them happen.
