Thyroid disorder is common disorder of thyroid gland

. Thyroid disorders include diseases like Graves' disease, thyroid nodules, Hashimoto's thyroiditis, and trauma to the thyroid, thyroid cancer and birth defects. Thyroid is a butterfly-shaped gland in your neck. Thyroid helps to set your metabolism.

Thyroid symptoms:

Hyperthyroidism:

Increased heart rate, heart palpitations, higher blood pressure, nervousness, and excessive perspiration.

Muscle weakness, trembling hands.

Development of a goiter (an enlargement in your neck).

Lighter or shorter menstrual periods.

Excessive warmth and sweating.

Hyperthyroidisms cause due to the overproduction of thyroid hormones in the body.

Hypothyroidism:

Lethargy, slower mental processes or depression.

Reduced heart rate.

Increased sensitivity to cold.

Tingling or numbness in the hands.

Development of a goiter (an enlargement in your neck).

Constipation, heavy menstrual periods or dry skin and hair.

Gaining weight though your diet decreases.

Hypothyroidism causes due to the underproduction of thyroid hormones in the body.

Subacute thyroiditis:

Mild to severe pain in the thyroid gland.

The thyroid feels tender to the touch.

Pain or discomfortwhen swallowing or turning your head.

Treatment for thyroid:

Cessation of drugs that may be causing the problem - e.g. lithium, amiodarone.

Iodine level should be increased, if any iodine deficiency is found. Iodine is key ingredients to manufacture thyroid hormones.

Thyroxine replacement therapy.

Surgery of goiter can be removed.

Glucocorticoid treatment for patients with other hormone deficiencies caused by pituitary or hypothalamic dysfunction that has also resulted in hypothyroidism.

Sometimes thyroid can be treated through medicines.

Take thyroid hormone to treat it.

Using of Antithyroid drugs - carbimazole, propylthiouracil.

Radioactive iodine - patient may need thyroxine replacement therapy after treatment.

Beta-blockers - used short term to control symptoms while other treatment modalities are put in place.

If you experience any of above symptoms, call your doctor and do the treatment as soon as possible. Treatment will help you to reset your body metabolism rate to normal one. They are no treatment for thyroid disorder but if you are affected by mild thyroid, it can be cured by the above treatments.
