Tier 1 visa are especially designed for eligible people like highly skilled migrants, entrepreneurs, investors, foreign graduates completing their graduation from UK based universities etc. This particular visa scheme was introduced in the year 2008 and has henceforth replaced all other previous types of visa; also there is a special kind of visa scheme called exceptional talent visa under tier 1 which is applicable for talented people belonging outside UK.

The next category or the investor category aims to attract wealthy individuals who plan to live in and invest in the business based in the United Kingdom and also take active interest in the running of the business and be able to create at least two full time job opportunities for the people of UK. The main aim is to increase the economic standard of UK by allowing the entrepreneurs to invest in these businesses.

Another category in tier 1 visa is the post study work where the candidates who have completed their graduation may obtain a temporary work permit; however this acts a bridge to the highly skilled talent and the candidates under this category are allowed to switch to some other visa category as and when they need.

The exceptional talent category allows people with international acclaim as a world leader or who is a potential world leader in the arts or science category to enter the UK and live there. The point based system allows the tier 1 candidates to obtain points which are needed to satisfy the criteria; the proficiency in English language, the ability of the migrants to support themselves are required to generate the points.
