Breath-ability:
The fabric used on the shirts and shorts must also be breathable. Rugby is played in all weather conditions but it is arguably sunny weather that can drain players faster. The importance of breathable fabrics cannot then be overemphasised.
Again, the best choice is 100% polyester. It has moisture-wicking properties, which means that it allows moisture to escape and, thus, keeps the wearer cool.
Size:
As previously mentioned, the fit of the shirt must be just right. The main purpose is to allow the player to move as freely as possible while also giving other players little chance to hold on to the shirt during tackles.
