Tips on how to install a new bathroom faucet
Bathroom faucets are part and parcel in your power room, half-bath or full bathroom, and a new bathroom faucet will greatly contribute to improving your bathroom designs. It will be very easy for you to install a new bathroom faucet, and you can make it just with some basic hand tools and our instructions as bellows.
Installing a faucet:
Remove existing faucet: Before installing the new faucet, you need to turn off the water supply and remove the existing faucet first. Remove the hot and cold water handles on y our existing faucet, if there is a small plastic cover in the center, you can pry up the plastic center with a knife. Then detach the handles by using a screwdriver and lift the handles straight up. To loosen and remove the nut surrounding the stem of the hot and cold water mechanisms, you need to use an adjustable wrench or if needed, an under-sink wrench is required to remove the nut from below. At the same time, place a bucket below the handles to catch the remaining water.
Detach the drain lifter: Detach the drain lifter and remove the rod. Keep the under-sink connector or strap for reuse.
Remove the water supply lines: Firstly you need remove the nuts surrounding the water supply lines for the hot and cold water mechanisms, and the compression fittings and nuts can be saved for next usage. If there are no compression-fitting nuts, a hacksaw is required to cut supply pipes and a bucket is as well needed to catch water. After that, mop up water with a cloth or rag.
Place the existing faucet in a bucket: Put the existing faucet in a bucket and let it drain. Then wipe and dry the removal process with a cloth. Set all nuts, compression rings and other fittings aside so that they can be reused during the installation of a new faucet.
Install the new faucet: Place the new faucetin position and tighten the fittings by hand. Then adjust its location and tightening the fittings with tools.
Attach the new drain lifter: Attach the new drain lifter and reuse the old connecting rod or strap.
Make connection to the water supply: Connect to the water supply. Align the hot and cold water mechanisms with the water supply lines. And then slip on the nut, after that, slip on the compression fitting. Seal on threads of the water supply connection with plumber's tape or brush them on plumber' putty. Make the compression fitting slide down to the end of the supply tube and the nut over the threaded connection manually, and tighten it with a wrench.
Test it out: Turn on the water supply to make a test. Firstly check the cold water to see if there is any leak around each connection. If there are water drips from the connections, tighten gently to avoid damaging the faucet parts to cause more leaks. Finally run the water through the mechanisms and clean those small bits remained from manufacturing process.
