Tom Petty And The Heartbreakers Tickets - Headliners Are A Major Attraction For Petty Fans

Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers have long been known as a great live act

. Their reputation is partly why their 2009 compilation-the aptly titled and extremely highly rated album The Live Anthology-was one of the highest selling albums of the year. But the only thing better than listening to a Tom Petty live show is actually being there when Petty rips into a hit song like "Runnin' Down a Dream."

Petty's many fans have a lot to look forward to this summer, with the band's tour crossing most of North America and hitting a wide swath of the United States. No matter where you live, there's a pretty good chance that Tom Petty will be touring nearby-and not only that, but he'll be bringing some excellent talent to open for him.

One of the major attractions of this tour-besides it being the first for the Heartbreakers in years-is the lineup of opening acts. These include some very well-known classic rockers, including Crosby, Stills and Nash as well as Joe Cocker, but also include some younger acts like My Morning Jacket and Drive-By Truckers.

Below, we've laid out a quick and easy guide to the openers that you can expect to be at Tom Petty's shows this year.

Crosby, Stills & Nash: This trio is going to be the most popular by far. Anyone who grew up in the '60s listening to classic rock recognizes their folksy, country rock as an obvious precursor to Petty's work. They're the perfect act to accompany the Heartbreakers, so make sure you get to the stage early to see them perform.

Joe Cocker: Yet another classic rock entertainer and a master guitarist, Joe Cocker is famous for his gravelly voice and "With a Little Help from My Friends." There's no doubt that Petty was thinking "a little help from his friends" would be a major enticement on this tour when he asked Cocker to join the lineup.

Buddy Guy: Blues guitarist Buddy Guy is yet another classic figure that Petty managed to pull on to the tour. Guy is known for impressing audiences by walking into the crowd while performing or playing his guitar with drum sticks. Don't miss out the chance to see him live.

My Morning Jacket: Forming in 1998, My Morning Jacket is a much younger rock band than the Heartbreakers. They aren't nearly as famous, though they did attract a wide pool of fans with their 2005 hit album Z. Expect them to be an attraction for the kids, though even older listeners will enjoy their modern take on a classic sound.

Drive-By Truckers: The Drive-By Truckers are also a more modern-sounding band, known for their Southern-fried approach to rock that's heavily indebted to Lynyrd Skynyrd. But they're also known for moving concept alums and songs that are practically short stories about the South. If you're from the region, you can't miss them.
