Too Many MLM and Direct Sales Company? How to Break Out of the Pack!


Go ahead. Start Counting. When I think of all the MLM and direct sales companies out there I get at least 10 and I know that isn't the end of it. From Amway to Arbonne to Pampered Chef there are people trying to make significant incomes from home selling a variety of products. And they are all wonderful companies with wonderful products! But, how do you as a business owner in direct sales get your business known? How do you promote yourself and your MLM companies products without getting a roll of the eyes and "I'm not interested" before you have even opened your mouth? Let's talk about 3 things you can do to break out of the MLM pack to get noticed and be successful.

Listen to what people want, instead of pushing what you think they need. Traditionally people in direct sales will tell everyone that they know, or have ever known, about their company and the products before letting the people get a word in edge wise. This is not the way to appeal to people that you want to join your business or become your customer. Everyone wants to be heard. They want to feel understood. Learn to ask pointed questions about what they want out of life, or what their biggest challenge is in a certain area. Then be ready to lead them toyour next step. You need to be about helping the people in your life find what they are looking for. Then, even if they choose to not go into business with you, they will look on you favorably and recommend you to others.

Remind them that is is not a "get rich quick business" Any legitimate way to make money online is going to take investments of time and money. You can't expect to be successful with out taking a risk. People who are looking for businesses that have low start up costs and quick results need to be gently told that working from home is hard work and might take time. When you have someone desire more information about your MLM or direct sales business continue to "drip" them with e-mails that tell them how good your business is, and how when you invest your time, resources, and are committed to attaining results you will succeed. Remember, everyone has a different learning curve. So don't boast about how much money you make or how fast you succeeded, just be encouraging and confident in your business opportunity.


Learn how to use the internet to find potential business partners and customers. With the way the internet is today your people base doesn't have to stop with the people who you know or have known face to face. Just because you are going online to market your business doesn't mean that you have to start cold calling people. You can create a warm market online. Start a blog writing about who you are, why you started your business, what you love about it and why it is beneficial. Become an article marketer, and reach people who are already looking to start a business, or who are in the market for whatever your product is. Then, by the time you talk to them they will be ready to hear what you have to say.
