Top Myths Of St. Lucia Busted

As with any holiday destination, some myths have arisen relating to Saint Lucia and

the kind of accommodation options available for example, the fabulous Cap Maison luxury hotel.

The rainy season means non-stop rain

Not on St. Lucia it doesnt! It is true that rain is much more likely at some times of the year than others. This is called the rainy season, and when it does rain, it can be exceptionally heavy in the way that rain in a tropical climate often is. However, it is also true that such showers typically last perhaps 20 or 30 minutes and are followed very shortly afterwards by blue skies and warm sunshine.

St Lucian food is very hot and spicy

Whilst it is perfectly true that jerk spices are a famous product of the island and used extensively in cooking, it is totally untrue that all cuisine on the island is inevitably hot and spicy. Many dishes on St. Lucia are known for their subtlety and variety of flavour. For example, the national dish is often cited as being salted codfish and green figs (typically banana), which might be an acquired taste it but it isnt always served with large amounts of hot spices. Chefs on the island are heavily influenced by French cuisine and they will often prepare dishes spiced and seasoned to the customer specifications.

The island caters primarily for cruise ship visitors

No, it does not. Of course, across most of the Caribbean, the cruise ship business is an important economic factor, however, on Saint Lucia the emphasis is more on exclusive accommodation in idyllic spots such as Cap Maison. Luxury hotel accommodation is perhaps the prevailing culture rather than mass tourism.

St. Lucia is all about its beaches

It is true that the island has some of the best beaches in the world. Just looking at a photograph of, say, Jalousie beach will convince you of that and there are many others.

Yet however proud the islanders are of their beaches, they dont think that the island is defined exclusively by them. There are a huge number of other sites to see both natural and man-made. History abounds here, including working plantations and museums touching on the sad history of the slave trade in the Caribbean. The interior of the island also has a natural rainforest with unique flora and fauna. The bottom line is that entertainment here is not just about sand and sea.

Everything in the Caribbean is expensive

It is difficult to objectively respond to this because it depends very much on your own personal standards and what you are comparing prices to. All that can be said is that like many parts of the world, if you are staying in luxury accommodation and partaking of exclusive dining, you may expect them to come with a price that is commensurate with the quality provided. However, it is also possible to enjoy yourself on the island for prices that many might consider to be reasonable.

So, if all of the above information sounds appealing to you, why not find out more about St. Lucia and Cap Maison. Luxury hotel accommodation and the holiday of a lifetime are waiting for you!
