Toyota dealers in NY proud of company's record for recall remedies

Oh what a feeling! Toyota executives and service staff alike may be jumping in the air like drivers in Toyota's cheesy commercials from the 70s. That's because the company is making great strides in getting a fix on all those recalled models and, so far, more than five million vehicles have been repaired.

That sounds like a good record for a company that everyone all but wrote off less than a year ago due to the massive recalls stemming from several system issues in Toyota vehicles. Now Toyota is set to end the year with record sales and a good feeling that they are living up to their promise to fix what may or may not have been broken. This is certainly welcome news for Toyota dealers in NY.

"To date, approximately 80 percent of the sticking pedal modifications have been completed on the 2.3 million vehicles that have been recalled, and more than 86 percent of the ABS program updates have been performed on the 148,000 Prius and Lexus models that were recalled," Toyota stated. "Nearly 58 percent of the floor mat entrapment modifications have been completed on the 5.4 million vehicles that were recalled for this issue."

What is even more amazing, though, is the public perception of the company. The media basically told us that Toyota was finished after massive recalls in late 2009 and early 2010 and insisted that buyers would no longer trust the Toyota. That doesn't seem to be the case. Customer loyalty has remained high and financial incentives offered by the company apparently enticed many first-time buyers as well in the second and third quarters.

NJ used cars customers can also have peace of mind over this announcement as it reflects back to how Toyota cares for its customers and stands by its products. Using a new tool called the SMART evaluation, Toyota is responding to and addressing consumer complaints and concerns and most seem pleased with the results.

The goal is for a member of a SMART team to contact the customer within 24 hours of any complaint and arrange for the vehicle to have an on-site evaluation. Toyota also has pledged to include Smart Stop Technology, a brake override system, in all its new vehicles by the end of this year.

Although legal proceedings are still pending in the recall cases, Toyota is confident they can keep customers' trust by addressing each problem as it arises. As for the lawsuits - we'll have to wait and see what the judge decides in the next couple of weeks.
