However, it is true that transcription jobs are mostly outsourced to foreign countries, for the very same reason that you outsourced your transcription work to cut costs. The good thing is that despite this number of transcription jobs that are outsourced to countries outside the United States, there are still a lot of transcription jobs available. What is even better is that most of these are editorial posts. BPO companies need people who can edit the works done by foreign outsourcers.

While BPO (business process outsourcing) companies have top-notch foreign transcriptionists working on reports 24/7, most editorial posts are still available for people in the US out to start a career in the field. After all, editing is part of the transcription process.

Another equally, if not more important, front, is the internet. It has made freelancing easy. There are loads of audio and video files that needs transcribing and transcription outsourcing companies have turned into the internet as another resource. Most companies would have a steady 'roster' of transcriptionists who would be ready to take on a project. The system usually works by setting up a website where an available project is presented to a number of freelancers and letting these freelancing transcriptionists take their pick. The internet outsourcing companies take care to allow only trained and qualified transcriptionists to take projects to assure quality of the work.

Transcription outsourcing did not kill the transcription business. As a matter of fact, new life is breathed into the field by the rise of freelancer hubs and networks in the internet, who have allowed for better 'contact' between clients, freelancers and outsourcers.
