The great thing about New York in general is that you can have this amazing balance of urban and sparsely populated areas very near to each other. All you need to do is hop on a train or get in your car, drive 1 hour, and it seems like youre in a different world. A lot of the native New Yorkers already know this and thats why many of them escaped the hustle and bustle of the city to get away to the countryside for a few days a week. While you can do all sorts of exciting things in the city such as seeing a Broadway show, hitting all of the famous landmarks, and experiencing a multitude of different cultures foods all within a few blocks, you will find that upstate offers the antithesis of this experience. Upstate you will find delicious natural food coming off of apple farms and dairy farms as well as beautiful scenery provided by the Catskill Mts. I guess that this is the true magic of New York: It is a synthesis of two different worlds, one urban and one rural that provide equally interesting and unique experiences and yet contrast so heavily.
