A survey carried out by broker Foreign Currency Direct found that when it polled 2,000 small and medium-sized firms, around 25 per cent of the bosses said they would consider moving to another country around the world in the next five years.

The search for a better work/life balance was unsurprisingly the main reason that people cited for wanting to move. Two out of five people said tax rises which have been proposed by the new coalition government have made them consider looking at starting again overseas, while one third believe there is a greater chance of building a profitable business abroad rather than in the UK.

As with most surveys of this kind, Australia and New Zealand come out as the top destinations for people considering a life of sun, sea and sand.
