Underwater Shooting Techniques
Almost everything imaginable is already invented and out there
. Now even cameras can easily rise above their previous limitations. If before a digital camera could only capture photos of things which can be seen on land, with the aid of technology, even fish are now able to share their moments by using a camera lens.
It is human nature to always be unsatisfied with what we've got. Often times, humans want something totally new, something totally fresh, something interesting, and something uncommon. For this reason, underwater photography caught the eye of most people - either they want to learn to capture an underwater photo themselves, or they are just attracted by the photos shot underneath the ocean.
If you happen to belong to those who wish to take shots underwater, then these few tips might help you.
Underwater photography is, as the term implies, capturing pictures under water. Basically, the rules of underwater photography are the same as in normal photography, however, taking shots in a different environment may require a bit more effort than taking a photo in a waterless environment.
A very important thing you should keep in mind is that along with the different environment you have to cope with, taking pictures underwater has countless limitations - limited daylight, limited equipment (since you cannot bring your entire photography equipment underwater), limited time (obviously, eventually, we need to surface for air, thus our focus and momentum are interrupted).
First things first, you have to know how to hold your camera the correct way. It is recommended that you attempt to stay at the bottom of the seabed. Once you find a good position, you need to put the camera in the palm of your left hand, then steady it by utilizing your other hand. You have to maintain your upper arms in close proximity to your body, so that you won't wiggle. Make sure that you support the digital camera with both hands, never only use one for it may cause your hand to rattle, hence a blurry photo.
Now, it's time to take your shot. Always bear in mind that in underwater photography, you must take photos close up. If you use a long shot technique, you're putting more water between your lens and your subject, so a huge possibility that your picture is blurry.
Nevertheless, if you are enjoying learning the fundamentals of underwater photography, you must also be aware of several things. Coral reef is one interesting subject, however if you touch it, it'll die. Some irresponsible photographers still take a shot without considering the things they can harm. These creatures - they've got life - and we should be cautious about it. Keep in mind that a photo seriously isn't worth a life.
If you have to protect your environment from yourself, you might also need to guard yourself from the environment. We all know, water can be a bit dangerous. So before you decide to dive into water, you should first arm yourself with the skills and training for every aspect of underwater activities. No harm in preparing, right?
