University Of Southampton Highly Rated In Best University For Nursing Rankings

The University of Southampton has come a close second to the University of Surrey

in the quest to be named the best university for nursing in England, according to the Times Good University Guide.

The title of best university for nursing is awarded according to factors like graduate employability, student satisfaction, and student/teacher ratio.

Official statistics showed 100% of Southampton nursing degree students found employment after graduating; making the university one of the hot favourites to be crowned best university for nursing.

But this was not to be; with the University of Surrey just edging out its south coast rival to claim the coveted title of best university for nursing.

The University of Southampton recorded a student satisfaction rate of 81%, with 68 % of candidates graduating with either a first or 2:1 degree classification. Statistics also revealed that nursing degree students at Southampton benefited from 17 teaching staff for every student, and a figure of 5,351 spent per student on teaching.

In 2011 the University of Southampton was regarded as the best university for nursing. It was, after all, the first university in the country to have its BN nursing degree programmes fully accredited the Nursing and Midwifery Council.

Being the best university for nursing is an accolade of which any university would be rightly proud. Especially in 2011/2012, as more would-be students apply to study nursing than any other degree subject.

Professor Jessica Corner, who is Dean of Health Sciences at the University of Southampton and originally trained as a nurse herself, said: Our programmes benefit from close partnerships with practice settings, clinical leaders and close involvement with healthcare service users.

We are student-centred, meeting the needs of students with differing learning styles and learning needs, we take pride in offering a unique, values-based approach to our educational delivery to the advantage of each of our students. She added.
