Accent lighting is the reverse of background lighting. Its used to highlight elements of interior (or sometimes exterior) design, and to make objects and areas of interest in a room stand out so that they become much more of the foreground. It is also used to create a variety of interesting lighting effects.

Accent lighting is essentially focused and specifically directional, which means that different textures and shapes of lighting can be achieved pools and beams of light can be placed where you want them. LED lamps are also very compact so they can fit into some quite inaccessible places, they also dont give off heat, and they can provide very bright high output and focused beams using low wattage. They also last a long time. For example, 2 watt versions of GU10 LED lights are ideal for accent lighting in a domestic or commercial setting.
