Using Performance Reviews To Meet Daily Business Goals
Employers have the responsibility to instruct their employees on the policies and procedures of the workplace
. A good employer should also implement performance reviews so that each employee can receive feedback on how he or she is performing on the job. If a certain task is not being completed correctly these performance reviews are a great way to help correct any wrong behavior and coach employees toward success.
There are many different types of performance reviews that companies can use to boost productivity and help achieve goals. Some of these systems are more effective than others. For example, my friend told me of the performance review she has annually at her job. At each review, her manager tells her what areas of her job she is doing well and which areas she needs to improve in. Then, she receives a raise. Although the feedback can help her improve, she does not get any reviews throughout the year. I believe that if her employer were to utilize performance reviews more often than annually, employees at the company would be able to perform their tasks more effectively sooner than later. By reviewing employees more often, managers can catch errors quickly and help redirect employees toward the proper procedure.
Another type of performance review is when an employee is given a grade based on their performance. For this type of review to be beneficial, the employee must see which areas if any they were marked down in. For example, an 80% will tell the employee there is something that they need to work on. However, unless that employee is told that the 20% was deducted for regular tardiness and lack of independence on the job, then that employee won't know which areas to improve in.
Every job has unique tasks that employees are asked to perform at a level of excellence. For example, employees fall short of excellence when they use the wrong procedure, ignore company policies, use sloppy workmanship, or display poor customer service. A manager can determine how often to hold performance reviews as a way to hold employees accountable for their time at work. This will help business run smoothly as each employee should be performing the same task in the same manner. It can also help determine which employees may not be suitable for a company. How can employers communicate with employees about how they are performing on the job without holding some variety of performance reviews? They are crucial to running a successful business.
