Variety of Anxiety Attacks Make Diagnosing Difficult
In today's society, we see more people diagnosed with some form of anxiety disorder than ever before
. This is partly due to the fact that we are able to diagnose and recognize anxiety symptoms better. But it is also because the rate of change in society has increased exponentially over the past twenty years or so putting more stress on everyone involved.
There are so many different types of stress that impact the lives of everyday people. You have the minor stresses such as a high school student worrying about how well he will do on a test. And there are more serious stresses such as a person with cancer wondering if the latest treatment will be the one that finally works.
There are times when you can pretty much predict the oncoming of an anxiety attack. For instance, if you are catatonically frightened of oral presentations and you are scheduled to give a speech, you know ahead of time that you will become more anxious as the event approaches. In fact, this situation can result in somewhat of a feedback loop where the simple expectation that you will become more anxious will in fact make you more anxious.
On the other hand, there are many times when an anxiety attack will come on suddenly with no warning. This can happen in the case of a woman walking at night though a strange neighborhood and realizing that she is all alone.
One of the most prevalent symptoms that a person may have an anxiety disorder is that the person tends to experience high levels of anxiety in situations where a normal person would not feel anxious. A perfect example of this is the condition known as agoraphobia. This is a fear of being in crowds or in social situations that are uncontrolled.
In addition, the anxiety is clearly seen in the person that is extremely afraid to leave his or her house. This is a situation where a normal person would not think twice about interacting with strangers, but a person with an anxiety disorder may well be paralyzed in simply thinking about it.
Even though more tools are available to professionals for diagnosing anxiety disorders, they can still be frustratingly difficult to diagnose at times. This is because not everyone has the same symptoms when they are anxious. For example, one person may sweat profusely when anxious while another will simply stand paralyzed, and unable to react to the events around him.
In another way, however, as typical anxiety behaviours have become more recognized, psychologists and therapists have found making identification of anxiety disorder easier. Regardless of the cause, however, the cures and solutions are becoming more well known. And this is what makes the many cures for anxiety on the horizon a lot more exciting.
