Vga Cables: Allows For Analog Signal Extension Between Video Source And Display

Video Graphics Array or VGA, as it is commonly referred

, is the graphics standard used in older computers. Even though many computers today still support this graphics standard, it also depends on the type of monitor being used. These days the cables which carry the display signals are referred to as VGA cables. Available in a wide range and at different prices, the more expensive models have gold plated plugs or shielding which prevent interference. However, experts believe that these expensive models offer almost the same image quality as the cheaper versions. The main thing which should be kept in mind while selecting these cables is the cable length. The length should be equal to the distance between the source and display devices as longer cable lengths can lead to signal degradation.

The connectors found on video cards and computer monitors is the VGA 15 pin connector. This VGA connector has 15 pins on the plug laid out in three rows of five along with two screws, one either side of the pins. These screws help secure the connection in place. Ridged edges of these screws enable them to be tightened and loosened by hand rather than by a screwdriver. Available in male to male and male to female connectors, these cables can extend the distance between the source and display device from 3feet to 100 feet. Supporting a video resolution of 1600 x 1200, these cables provide optimum video performance by utilizing coaxial and twisted pair signal lines plus ferrite cores on either end.

Also known as monitor cables, they are UL tested and certified in order to meet rigid standards of everyday use. The copper braid and aluminized Mylar foil shielding on them ensure a noise-free connection. This triple shielding offers protection from EMI/RFI interference. Compatible with PC and MAC systems, the main job of these cables is to carry the analog component of the video signals. In order to transmit audio, RCA cables should be used. Hardware compatibility, cable configuration, cable length and shielding are the major factors which determine which cable one should opt for. Most widely used in video and graphics, these cables are a cost efficient solution for connecting the computer to the monitor. These Cables are a de facto standard for graphics transmission from computers.
