Prioritizing your most valuable family memories first - before the lower priority items - is your best strategy.

After you pick what you want to convert to digital format and separate them, send them to a professional transfer house and have them converted into files that you can edit on your home computer. If you do it this way, you will be able to see all of your great movies with your family in the living room again and again on DVDs that you can make after you edit.
