Volkswagen originally produced the Scirocco between 1974 and 1992 during which period
two generations were introduced, a third generation was introduced in 2008. All three generations of the Scirocco are small sporty family hatchbacks which are front engined and front wheel drive.
When the third generation was introduced it was available with the following engines:
1.4 L TSI 122 PS producing 120 bhp
1.4 L TSI BlueMotion Technology 122 PS producing 120 bhp
1.4 L TSI 160 PS 2.0 L TSI 200 PS producing 197 bhp
2.0 L TSI 210 PS producing 207 bhp
2.0 L TDI 140 PS producing 138 bhp
2.0 L TDI 170 PS producing 168 bhp
The engines were available with three transmission options, a 6 speed manual, a 6 speed auto and a 7 speed auto.
Recently Volkswagen has announced a new more powerful BlueMotion model of the Scirocco, it is based on the 2.0-litre 140 PS engine and comes with Stop/Start and battery regeneration systems to help create the cleanest and most fuel efficient Scirocco in the line up. It comes with either the manual or automatic 6 speed gearbox.
The fuel economy for the 2.0 BlueMotion model is significantly improved from 55.4 mpg to 62.8 mpg on the combined cycle, while the emissions are also reduced accordingly, down from 134 g/km to 118 g/km.
