What Are My Responsibilities As An Employee With Workers Compensation?
It is important as an employer and an employee to understand the importance of workers compensation
. As an employer you need to understand that it is required by law. You cannot be in business and not have workers compensation if you have employees. Whether you need Pennsylvania workers compensation or live in Nevada and need workers compensation in Nevada.
As an employer you need to understand the risk that you take if you don't have workers compensation. One injury could make it so that you lose everything you have. Once you have it in place you can have confidence that you will be covered and protected if something does happen to an employee.
If you are an employee there are certain things that are your responsibilities. First of all you will want to make sure you are taking precautions to be protected on the job. There is no money or compensation that is worth getting an injury on the job. Then if an accident does happen there are things that you are responsible to do. If you don't do certain things then you can risk not having the workers compensation coverage. Each state might have slightly different rules so let's take a look at Pennsylvania workers compensation and the things you need to do as an employee.
The most important thing to do is to report the injury. Even if you feel like it is a very small injury and you don't need to do anything about it you will still want to report it. If it isn't reported and you end up needing medical attention it won't be covered. Reporting it is not enough. You will want to make sure an accident report is completed.
You will also want to not count on just your employer keeping record of the accident and the steps of things that happen. You will want to make sure you keep your own personal record. Included in that record you will want to note who you reported your accident to, who witnessed the accident, the time, the date and then continue to document the doctor visits and anything else that takes place with the accident.
Once your employer accepts the claim you will begin to receive compensation if you have to be away from work. With Pennsylvania workers compensation you should receive approximately 66 2/3% of your income as compensation. It is important to be honest and do all that the doctor tells you to do so that you can return to work. It is definitely better to be getting 100% compensation instead of the lower percentage.
This just touches on a couple of things you need to do if an injury occurs. Whether it is going to be a Pennsylvania workers compensation claim or in another state you will want to make sure you cover all of your basis.
