Since there are many different areas of the criminal justice system that will be able to benefit from the help of a psychologist, you will find that there are actually quite a few options. You can find work in court systems, and you can evaluate people to see if they can stand trial based on their mental capacity. In addition, you could work as an expert witness for the prosecution or the defense. Often, the defense will need psychologists who can testify to the fact that their client was not at full mental capacity when a crime was committed. The prosecution needs psychologists who will be able to refute these claims and show that the suspect was indeed sane.

Of course, those arent the only areas that you could work when you have your forensic psychology degree. You may also be working with the police or other law enforcement very closely. In some cases, they might provide you with access to the crime scene or evidence that you will be able to use to develop a criminal profile. While you probably arent going to be coming up with profiles on a regular basis, you will still want to know the techniques of how to develop an accurate profile. They can help the police to locate suspects in crimes.

You could even have a job where you interview police candidates. You can determine if they are mentally capable of handling the job of a police officer. Others who have a forensic psychology degree might work in an institution for the criminally insane, or in the corrections system.
