Many experts say that marriage has equal exchange of behaviors, called reciprocality. For example, husband sees that wife gives extra effort and does good things to him; husband will do the same for wife. Taken to the opposite side, if husband sees wife does not care, he will also not care. These behaviors are normal responses and expected to happen to most couples.
Unrealistic expectations are also part of marriage failure. From the start of the relationship, there should be goals and expectations set which both husband and wife agree to meet. Although it is but normal to see this problem even in happy marriages, happily married couples usually use healthy coping mechanisms to preserve the relationship.
Problems always exist because there are no perfect relationships, and you can't expect problems to resolve on its own. Couples need to find ways to negotiate and communicate with each other for resolution to take place. If both partners do not want this to happen, then divorce might be imminent.
Marriage, you see, is not just about sex. It takes more than physical attraction for marriage to work and this includes intimacy and emotional support from each partner. When these essential attributes are not present in a marital relationship, failure will take place.
