The wonderful aroma and the numerous benefits of tea have captured the hearts of everyone

. Next to water, tea is the worlds widely-consumed beverage. In some Asian countries, tea is the water they consume before and after each meal. In fact, a cup of tea is even given as a complimentary drink and the bottled water as the sold, commercial beverage.

Tea was first grown in small family gardens in China for the private consumption of every Chinese family. But the inviting scent of a tea infusion cannot be kept in hiding forever. Thousands of years later, traders have brought tea to countries outside China and now, tea has influenced all major continents.

Said to be the true elixir of life, consumption of tea in China, thousands of years back, were medicinal in nature. Such a conviction invited people to take a cup of it and leaves them wanting for more.

There are only four main types of tea based on the techniques in which they are produced and processed. The white tea is the rarest as it can be picked in only a few weeks in a year; its production is in the Fujian province in China in which the exact processing method is still kept a secret.


Green tea, another type of the treasured beverage, is made from tea leaves simply heated and rolled to release the natural flavor; it has a unique sweet taste. Green tea is said to contain many if the teas antioxidant effects and is regarded as a healthy, aromatic drink.

Another variety is the black tea. The name itself denotes a stronger taste as this type is more oxidized and contains a higher amount of caffeine. The oolong tea, last of the types, is the most complex of all. It is a blend between green and black teas as it is only partially oxidized making it the most difficult to process.

Oolong tea, or otherwise known as the Black dragon tea, as it appears dark, long and curly, is grown and harvested mostly from the Taiwan Mountains. It is semi-fermented therefore its rich taste and strong, lasting aftertaste have made oolong well-known.

Organic oolong tea is the denoted term for this type of tea as the best oolong is always made by hand. Skills and dexterity of processing the tea is of utmost importance to keep the unique taste too oxidized can already be black tea, while too less oxidation can produce green teas; oolong has to be in between.
