What's Your Spending Comfort Zone

Most of the items in my closet probably cost between $5 and $75. I'm a huge fan of thrift stores, discount stores, and clearance racks. My mom raised me to hunt relentlessly for the best deal, so even when I'm doing fine financially, a $50 price tag will give me pause. A $100 item is a pretty big purchase, one to ponder, put on hold, and perhaps consult with a clergyman about ("But Father, it's BCBG!"). And with the exception of an ill-advised pair of limited-edition purple Ugg boots my sophomore year of college, I almost never buy anything that costs more than $150.
My friend Melissa has the complete opposite spending outlook: she will drop $500 on a dress, no big deal. Sometimes I wish I could be more like her, since my proud bargain finds often disintegrate into tattered rags faster than her chic investment pieces. But my spending comfort zone feels deeply ingrainedlike a moral compass instilled in me since childhoodand I'm not sure I'll ever be able to pay a three-digit price without batting an eye (or having a small heart attack).
So what about you guys? How much will you pay for something before you start stressing? What's the most expensive piece you've ever bought? Was it worth it?
