First, let's just look at what happens to our bodies when we relax?

The fight or flight hormonal reaction is initiated by the left side of the brain. The opposite of this heightened state of bodily function is relaxation. Relaxation is initiated by the right side of the brain.

Relaxation and the stress related to the fight or flight reaction cannot exist at the same time, as they are opposite bodily functions. Therefore, if you relax the stress disappears!


This is the reason that many more enlightened companies offer relaxation classes for their employees.

So, the first big tip as regards stress is to recognise when stress levels are too high and then to find a way to relax that suits you.

Recognising stress might be more difficult than you would imagine because we have all become accustomed to living with it. Classic signs include:

Irritability

Inability to concentrate for any length of time

Lack of creativity

A tenseness in your muscles, possibly to the point of feeling tingling sensation, especially in your forearms, or even shaking/trembling generally

Constant tiredness

Susceptibility to minor illness

Lack of perspective

Poor sleep patterns

Persistent memory lapses

So, what forms of relaxation are particularly good for business success?

Basically, the best relaxation techniques are those that suit your mentality and personal outlook on life and, of course, your time resources and physical capability.

Ways to relax include:

Using a good relaxation recording regularly. Most hypnotherapists will have one you can buy cheaply

Learning and regularly practicing self-hypnosis

Attending relaxation sessions or other relaxation-orientated therapies/activities, such as guided meditation, yoga, reiki therapy, aromatherapy, reflexology

Ask at your local library or community centre about your nearest providers of these excellent relaxation activities. Alternatively, search online for local services

Reading a fiction book

Watching a good film especially comedies. Laughter is a huge antidote to stress

Indulging in your favourite hobby


Create space in your day to take "power naps". These are short cat naps of around twenty minutes or so and do wonders for refreshing your mind & generating creativity

If you are struggling to sleep at night, I would recommend you use a hypno-sleep recording. This is something you listen to at the time you intend to go to sleep. It is basically a relaxation recording but has no script at the end to awaken you so you just drift off to peaceful slumber after your body has completely relaxed. We have pioneered this technique & have found it to be very effective.

I use a small MP3 player and some comfortable "marshmallow" earphones and set the MP3 player to play our sleep recording track just once. I get a peaceful deep sleep guaranteed every night.
