What you need to be successful at table tennis coaching

To help your students get the most out of their table tennis coaching

, there are certain things that you should bring or have at every session. All of the topics in this article are important to have in your bag as a coach.

One of the first things that you should make sure that you have is a stop watch. It is easy to find a cheap digital timer that will simply count for you and beep when the countdown is finished. You should find a timer that you can clip to your clothing or hang around your neck, but also one that can be set on the table so you can see the time.

A simple stop watch will allow for you to stay on schedule when you are coaching. Most stop watches will have a memory setting that you can use when doing table tennis drills with your students. This is a good feature to look for so you will not need to keep track of time if you have it and be able to focus on teaching. Another feature that is good to have for table tennis coaching on your stop watch is a counter that you can use to see how long your students can go without stopping before they need to take a break.

Another good tool to use for table tennis coaching is a tape measure. With a tape measure that is at least 10 feet you can show students the different angles that can be reached from different locations around the table. You should get two or three tape measures so that you can show multiple things all at once. They can also be helpful for dividing the table into different sections for teaching drills and target practicing. Using the tape measure to show how footwork should be in an arc when moving around the table instead of in a straight line is also helpful in table tennis coaching.

If you have a lot of broken table tennis balls then you should save these and use them for target practice for your students. When you are doing your table tennis coaching and you want to help your students learn to keep their eyes on the ball these broken balls can help in doing that. With broken balls you can easily push in one side of the ball so that they will stay in one spot on the table.

Any good table tennis coach should always have spare training paddles on hand so that if one of your paddles breaks you don't have to interrupt the coaching session. You should also carry spare paddles for your students in case they forget to bring their own or theirs breaks while you are training. You may also want to look for some inexpensive paddles that have features such as short pips or anti-spin so your students can get used to the different types of paddles that they may encounter.

Carrying table tennis glue with you when going for table tennis coaching sessions will help you be prepared for any repairs that you may need to do on paddles. Regular table tennis glue is fine to have but you may want to also bring speed glue with you if you are unsure of whether or not your student knows how to speed glue their paddle. You will also want to have a clamp for the paddles to hold them together while the glue dries.

Having a prepackaged first aid kit is always a good idea for anything unexpected that might happen while you are table tennis coaching. If you don't want to carry around the whole kit, you should at least bring a few Band-Aids with you as well as an ice pack in case a student hurts themselves. It is always good to be prepared even though nothing may happen during your sessions.

Be sure that you bring enough extra practice table tennis balls with you for your table tennis coaching sessions. It can be uncomfortable for you and your student to get to a coaching session and realize that you did not bring enough or any table tennis balls with you. You should try to find brightly colored balls or ones that will not be the same color as your surroundings so it will be easy for you to find them once the session is finished. The last thing that you want to be doing is chasing after balls in the middle of the coaching session because you don't have enough of them or you are worried that you will not be able to remember where they landed later on.

These things are just some of the things that are important to bring with you to your table tennis coaching sessions. Anything else that you need to bring to make yourself more effective as a coach is a great idea to pack in your coaching bag. By brining the bag with you to every session, you will always have everything you need right on hand and your sessions will be successful.
