What's New In The Newly Launched Alto K10?

The K-Series Alto launch that everybody in India was waiting for finally happened

. Even prior to the launch, pictures of the Alto K10 were leaked from the brochure. Whats so great about this car and whats new in the new Alto K10? Lets find out in this article.

The new car comes in two variants: the Alto K10 LXi and Alto K10 VXi. The most important feature in the new Alto K10, however, is the new K-Series engine, the 998 cc engine that has been in talks for quite some time. The engine that had already proven itself in the Maruti Suzuki A-Star, Estilo and WagonR finally found its space in the Alto K10 too. Though the wheelbase remains the same, the car had to be stretched in order to accommodate this engine. On the whole, it can be deduced that the Alto has suffered changes inside and out to give rise to the K10.

The new car has made its entry with new headlamps that come with a little twist, a fresh radiator grille and enhanced interiors. Maruti claims that the K10 delivers 20.2 kmpl. The fuel economy conscious 3-cylinder K-Series engine expels 67 bhp at 6200 rpm and maximum torque of 90 Nm at 3500 rpm. Maruti also claims that the new hatchback jumps from 0-100 kmph in just 13.3 seconds. Unlike the earlier Altos Lever Shift Mechanism, the Alto K10 comes strapped with a 5-speed manual gear box with cable gear shift.

The window glasses are tinted offering maximum protection from the scorching rays of the sun. There are other changes too. One can watch out for the swanky new fog lamps. The rear of the Maruti Suzuki Alto too gets a fresher look after having undergone slight changes. The newly designed back door and the new set of rear combination lights, dome-shaped tail lights are something to watch out for. New 13-inch tubeless tyres come as standard. The new car comes in six peppy colours; Sunlight Copper, Fire Brick Red, Ecru Beige, Midnight Black, Superior White and Silky Silver.

The K10s interiors sport a grey-beige finish. Major attractions inside the car, however, happen to be the new racy instrument cluster with tachometer, an electronic trip meter and a remote fuel lid opener. To add streaks of class to the humble car, Maruti has equipped with a vanity mirror and rear parcel tray. The K10 also flaunts power windows, but only in the front.

Advanced features have been embedded in the car. Theres the key reminder to assist those who always, or even occasionally, forget the car keys inside. The central locking system finally finds its place in the model. An up-to-the-minute 3-spoke collapsible steering column further makes the drivers life convenient.

Theres ample ground clearance of 160 mm and seems to pose no issues. With a turning radius of just 4.6 metres, swift turns and maneuvers are not difficult either. This vehicle obeys all norms; it is BS-IV, E-10 and ELV compliant.

Maruti, as always, has priced the car right, just as we Indians want it to be. The Alto K10 LXi comes with a tag of Rs. 3.19 Lakh while the VXi is available at Rs 3.32 Lakh (ex-showroom Mumbai). The introductory ex-showroom Delhi prices lie between Rs 3.03 Lakh (LXi) and Rs 3.16 Lakh (VXi).
