When Four Becomes One: Merging Technologies Is The Future

With the digital revolution in full swing, people are perhaps getting more and more

used to working with a myriad of devices, each designed to make our lives just that little bit more convenient.

At any one time, it's not all that unusual for someone to have an mp3 player, mobile telephone and digital camera on them: three devices with three separate functions. However, we're starting to see gravitation away from this, with many mobile devices now serving as a telephone, music player and camera. This certainly makes sense, both from a practical and financial perspective.

Let's look at a typical office set-up too. Printers, fax machines, scanners, photocopiers - a multitude of electronic devices that not only consume financial resources, but precious space too. In an age when many companies are looking to use technology to cut overheads, it probably makes sense to look at ways to free up space for more valuable revenue-generating activities.

Indeed, with the advent of the internet era, more and more businesses are adopting work-from-home policies either as part of a flexible working arrangement or simply to cut down on expensive premises which again supports the notion that physical space is precious and must be used wisely.

So what can businesses do to manage their space more effectively? Well, with the wonders of modern technology, it may be time to ditch the filing cabinets in favour of digital storage: an entire warehouse worth of data can be stored on a portable hand-sized hard-drive.

In the same way as consumers are reaping the benefits of merging technologies, with one device serving multiple purposes, businesses should really be adopting similar principles. So rather than laying cables around your office and worrying about the logistics of getting your computer to link up to a printer and scanner, or deciding between having a photocopier or another desk, you can literally centralise all your needs in one convenient contraption.

Moreover, in this wonderful age of emails and digital data transfers, talk of fax machines may raise a smile in many offices. The fact is, people still use them so if you can have faxing functionality in your business without wasting any space with a dedicated machine, then why not have it?

Multifunction printers can solve all of these problems. They can save companies space for more important things and also money having to invest in many different devices. It certainly makes sound business sense.
