The Sagittarius contains a number of amazing nebulae and it can be seen through telescope
. It appears like a universe of light. This constellation is linked with a centaur aiming a bow. Sagittarius means the archer in Latin. It is found in Ophiuchus to the west and Capricorn to the east.
The Lagoon Nebula (M8) is the most spectral sight of Sagittarius. In the sky it looks like scattered gold dusts and is considered a diffuse nebula. This was discovered in 1747 by Le Gentil.
Sagittarius was referred as Pabilsag or Nergal by ancient Babylonians and the Greeks considered Sagittarius as a centaur. The popular Roman legend stated that Chiron was a centaur who was the son of Saturn and Philyra.
The ancient Greeks told of the story of Crotus who lived with the muses on Mount Helicon. He played music and sang in the choir. He had invented clapping. His timings were perfect when he clapped at the end of a play and music. When Crotus died, Muses entreated Zeus to honor him. . Zeus made a constellation recognizing his other skills as a great rider.
When the southern hemisphere sky is seen between June and July, Sagittarius has amazing shine which leaves behind rest of the constellations. At the peak of winter, the sun appears in Sagittarius.
