I call it that because when you are shopping you suddenly notice a picture of a family on the shelf in front of a certain grocery item. Of course seeing a photograph of a family either working on the farm or a photo including several generations of family members, does tend to catch the eye. These shelf markers are used to describe a little about the product it's local roots, and why it would benefit you as a customer, as well as the local community for you to buy that certain product.

I believe it is a way for Whole Foods Markets to help the consumer get back in touch with the reality that, yes, people really do make all the food we eat. All the good food anyway. The recipe was originally made by her Great Grandmother on her Mother's side as a tradition in their native home in the

Canary Islands. As the family grew and longed for a better life they migrated to Cuba and once there flurished, until Castro started his climb to control the country. Miriam's Mother, Flora had a bad feeling about all the promises Castro made and knew in her heart that he was a communist. Flora was the catalyst of getting her family out of Cuba and into the U.S

right before Castro took over Cuba. The Vigoa Family was on the last plane allowed to leave the Country before Castro closed down the airport.

Miriam Vigoa came to the United States as an eleven year old and now at 57 she has incorporated her roots to build a strong foundation here in her beloved country, America. The American dream of opening her own businesses one of which is Cafe Latte coffee House and Eatery in Winter Haven, Florida is directly responsible for her connection to Whole Foods Market in Florida. Vigoa developed her Great Grandmother's recipe which she now calls The Canary Island Garlic and Herb Olive Oil, for her cafe to make it easy to make Gourmet Meals in 3 to 5 minutes. She has three flavors, The Original splash, Lime Splash and Hot Splash, Whole Foods Market tasted her product and loved it and began carrying the Splash in mid November in all the Stores in Florida.

This one small Thanksgiving story is a story that is told thousands of times over again on all the Whole Foods Market shelves through all their stores.
