You hire the coach, with the idea that they will at least help you address company morale, prioritizing projects, streamlining expenses, expanding to new markets, etc. The person hiring the coach should look at both immediate concerns that need help as well as long-term potential issues that may arise.

Lastly, make sure you also do some homework on the reputation of your potential business coach. In essence, who have they worked for before? What types of problems fall within their area of expertise? How often will they be communicating and in touch with you and your employees? How long before you should expect to see results? Are there any past clients that you could talk to about their work ethic? Hiring a business coach could alter how a small business performs, so make sure to get the right one.
