Why Is Managing Type 2 Diabetes So Important?

Type II diabetes occurs when the blood sugar level becomes elevated

, and the body is unable to metabolize its blood glucose normally. This elevated sugar level over time causes many problems. These problems can include nerve damage, foot damage and eye complications. Thus, anyone who has diabetes should come up with strategies effective in manage type II diabetes. Strategies they can and should use include changing their diet and implementing an exercise regimen.

Most cases of type II diabetes can be prevented if patients eat a healthy diet and exercise regularly and avoid becoming obese. With that said, managing type 2 diabetes is very possible and not very difficult as long as the patient modifies their diet and sticks to a diet plan. Modifying the diet entails eating more fruits and vegetables, whole grains and lean meats consistently, and implementing a meal plan that they adhere to. This means consistently eating at a schedule time daily. Doing this helps stabilize the glucose level in the diabetic patient. Managing Type 2 Diabetes also means eliminating foods loaded with fats and eating less saturated fat. In fact, patients who eat 20 to 25 grams of fiber daily notice reduced blood glucose level.

In addition to nutritional changes, patients should implement an exercise regimen as well. Regular exercise helps manage weight gain and helps reduce the blood sugar level as well. Regardless to whether or not you have been diagnosed as a diabetic, every human should be exercising regularly.

Eye complications are a major problem when someone suffers from diabetes. Some of the more common eye complications that occur include glaucoma, cataracts and retinopathy. Patients with glaucoma experience vision loss due to pressure building up on the blood vessels. Cataracts that occur due to this condition often occur at an earlier age than patients who do not have this disease. Retinopathy can be either proliferative or nonproliferative. In a nonproliferative stage, the blood vessels become block and causes growth on the retina, which then creates difficulty focusing. Proliferative condition on the other hand occurs when the blockage on the blood vessel starts leaking into the eyes causing retinal detachment followed by difficulty seeing.

As you can see, the best way to manage type 2 diabetes and avoid the eye complications diabetes causes, is to not become a type II diabetic in the first place by eating healthy meals and exercising regularly. This will go a long way in maintaining good health.
