Win The Battle Of Depression And Find New Strength
The son of Jesse is a talented harp player
The son of Jesse is a talented harp player. Not only that; he is brave and strong. (1 Sam. 16:18, NLT). Continuing with the life of young David, strength and might was his third virtue. He was vigorous, full of power and energy. Who gave him this might?
God is my strength and power, and He makes my way perfect. He makes my feet like the feet of deer, and sets me on my high places. He teaches my hands to make war, so that my arms can bend a bow of bronze (2 Sam. 22: 33-35). David recognized the source of his strength; like if he said Look, I cannot do anything without God; I am completely helpless if He does not give me strength.
Maybe you dont need much external might in your current life (not many wars in your neighborhood). Maybe Im wrong and you are a soldier, I dont know. However, for most of us in todays world, inner strength and might is what we need.
Depression is the opposite of inner strength. Sometimes caused by unbalanced hormones or brain chemicals, but on most cases, fueled by the enemy of your soul, whom as you know, desires to steal and destroy your life.
Depression can sink your soul into extreme despair, exposing you to multiple spiritual attacks. If you struggle with it, do not fear; the devil comes to kill, steal, and destroy, but Jesus Christ wants to give you abundant life (Jn. 10:10).
Simply look to the Lord, choose to seek Him in your down times and depend on Him as the strength of your life. Happy are those who are strong in the Lord When they walk through the Valley of Weeping, it will become a place of refreshing springs, where pools of blessing collect after the rains! They will continue to grow stronger (Ps. 84:57 NLT).
In his book Prayers to Strengthen the Inner Man, Mike Bickle instructs how to pray for inner might:
The Spirit will strengthen our inner man by touching our mind, emotions, and speech with the might of His presence. We can draw on the strength of the Spirit as a river of life in us by asking Him to strengthen us. In addition to this, because the Holy Spirit lives in us, His love, peace, patience, and self-control are already in us. Thus, we can experience more of the power of His love, peace, patience, and self-control by thanking the Holy Spirit that these fruits are already in us by virtue of Him living in us.
Scripture
That He would grant you to be strengthened with might through His Spirit in the inner man. (Eph. 3:16)
The fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, self-control. (Gal. 5:2223)
Prayer
Holy Spirit, release divine might to strengthen my mind and emotions. Thank You for the presence of Your love, peace, patience, and self-control in me.
You can be strong like David. Take courage and remember: the Lord is the strength of your life. Seek Him, develop a lifestyle of waiting on Him and depression will control you no more. Yet those who wait for the LORD Will gain new strength; They will mount up with wings like eagles, They will run and not get tired, They will walk and not become weary. Is. 41:31 NAS
