The first known wind wheel dates back to the first century, with wind powered prayer wheels dating back to the fifth and seventh centuries AD. The first actual windmill was created around the ninth and tenth centuries and was used to pull up water and grind grain. The need for power in rural areas and alternative energy increased the development and use of the windmill for home electricity. I also learned to build my own DIY electricity system cheaply using a guide that I will share more about with you.

In the beginning of the eighties, several small companies in San Joaquin valley of California began wind farms in order to produce commercial energy. Fayette Manufacturing Corporation was responsible for the first of these wind farms in nineteen eighty-one. By the mid eighties, there were more than twenty-five farm companies operating in the same area.

A farm is made up of a group of wind turbines together in order to produce large amounts of electric power. The wind turbine converts kinetic energy or wind energy (motion energy) into mechanical energy. When the mechanical energy to be produced is electricity, then the device is usually referred to as a wind charger or wind generator.

Some large wind farms may have hundreds of wind turbines that are spread over hundreds of miles, but all land in between can be used for other purposes such as farming. All of the sites are selected in advance due to the need of particular wind measurements, which is known as the wind atlas. Detailed wind maps are usually developed for up to a year prior to any development of a particular farm.

The best locations for the use of every device is a location that is at a higher altitude because the wind tends to blow faster there. Speeds are best at approximately ten miles per hour or better with a constant flow of non-turbulent wind. A transformer is then necessary to handle the electrical energy generated and then transmission.

Most large onshore wind farms in the world are located within the United States with Europe being the leader in offshore. The only hazards to nature seem to be to birds and bats which may be harmed by pollutants of other sorts. These farms have no bad effects to the environment as they use no fuel, no water and emit no pollution into the air.

Fortunately, many people have now begun to like the appearance of its use as a means of power generation. As we move into the future with the goal toward cleaner energy, this is one option with very limited drawbacks. There is no way to provide power that can be much cleaner than using a windmill for home electricity. I have personally managed to build my own home DIY electricity system simply following a DIY guide online.
