Last week we began a two part series on noise pollution and hearing loss. This kind of pollution problem ranks third in our list of problems as stated by many people. Those who work in work environments that are laden with noise continuously stand the likelihood of losing their sense of hearing temporarily or for good. Machines such as tractors operators that need to be used for long periods of time are the usual culprits. Trouble can be created after ringing is heard in the ears after exposure to loud and noisy kinds of machines.

Meanwhile, it has been determined in a study developed by industrial hygienists that exposure to loud noise a few minutes in a day won't really cause any permanent harm to the hearing, as in the case of factory workers. Make sure that all motorized equipment are kept well for this will certainly go a long way toward kicking the bark and bite out of the usual noise generated by the engine. Air compressors, machines and other noise makers should be taken away from the worker moved into another room if possible especially if it is in a place where workers normally stay in. But then try rotating jobs so that not one person is immersed for more than the minimum time without a chance to recuperate from the extremely loud noise, if the relocation of equipment is not practical.

Sound deadening material is sufficient to keep the worker well insulated from the racket. But at times, it is crucial for the worker to protect himself from the surrounding sounds. Anything among car stuffing, ear plugs and ear muffs can be considered.

Ear muffs are the preferred protection around jet airports or large turbocharged engines where high pitched sounds predominate. Most of its styles are largely comfortable once fitted on properly. To do noticeable good, a snug fit in the ear is a must. However, it might surprise you to learn that your hearing ability is not lessened as you listen to what's happening around your machine. By shutting out loud noise, quieter sounds can flow in better.

One can easily carry around these noise control ear plugs which are also economical and effective, similar to ear muffs. But put your trust only on either a nurse or doctor who possess the ability to shape them to be effective and comfortable at all times. You might feel them being foreign objects in the ear but after a few minutes, you will barely feel them there. And since they are so affordable, you may be able to purchase them in different sizes for different laborers.

Controlling sound is impossible when you use ear plugs for swimming. They will never be up to this kind of job. It is unwise to stuff the ears with cotton if you wish to control noise.

There are tons of substances available in creating disposable ear plugs. Swedish wool is a title it is commonly known to have. Don't be a fool by working around noisy machines without any ear protection. Later in your life when you are already spending big for medical treatment and hearing aids, you will regret not spending on affordable ear protecting devices.
