I dont think its any surprise to you that I think workout music is a key element
to weight loss success and that is why all of this talk about Zumba the new dance/fitness craze sweeping the nation has gotten me all a buzz and quite frankly the rest of the fitness world appears to be jumping on board as well. Thereve been features in my local newspaper about Zumba and even a story on the local news in New York City about it, so whats the big deal? Not since the days of Sweatin to the Oldies with Richard Simmons has a dance crazed aerobics class taken off so quickly. Zumba is all the rage with classes popping up all over the country and people falling in love with it. Its one part dance class and one part aerobics. Instructors will teach everything from salsa to meringue and all sorts of Latin flavored dances in between. All while mixing in a heavy dose of low impact aerobics to get your heart rate up and your sweat glands working. So, why is Zumba so good? First off, its set to some really upbeat and fun music that will put a smile on your face. Imagine that, smiling while working out, I bet youd never see the day it would happen, but its here. Participants in a Zumba class come out re-energized and re-invigorated with a HUGE smile on their faces because the music is so up beat and lively. Second, it is a great low impact workout. Dont get me wrong, it will get you sweating, but it is low impact on your joints so instead of pounding away on your knees and ankles on the treadmill, you can get moving, get your heart rate up and see results with a much lower risk of injury. Finally, taking a Zumba class will get you one step closer to being a suave Latin lover. Ok, I threw that last one in there for fun, but hey it never hurts to be skilled in salsa or meringue to have some moves to show off when youre out on the town. If the Zumba craze proves one thing about your workout regimine it is that there is no substitute for good, upbeat and fun workout music. Music not only motivates you, but will help you to actually enjoy your workout instead of dreading it. So whether its Zumba classes or you want to stick to the treadmill, make sure your workout music matches the intensity level at which your working out and most importantly its music that you love. Your workout will be over before you know it.
