China has a history of nearly 100 years of antimony production. During the 40-odd years since the founding of the People"s Republic of China, a complete antimony industrial system composed of ore mining, dressing, smelting and processing has been established, providing a high productive capacity for the country. Since the 1980s, in particular, the country"s comprehensive mining-dressing-smelting capacity and production have been increased greatly. The comprehensive mining-dressing-smelting capacity of China went up from about 60,000 tons in 1985 to 160,000 tons, a 1.67-fold increase within 10 years, and the antimony concentrate production, from 46,000 tons in 1985 to 131,100 tons in 1997, a nearly three-fold increase within 12 years. But in 1998, the country"s production of antimony concentrates declined a bit, to 97,400 tons.
