The border governors from U.S. and Mexico convoked recently to determine the need for reform of U.S. immigration policies. The New Mexico governor, Bill Richardson, stated during the meeting that until November when the general election is intended to be held, it is impractical to expect Congress to make efforts at reforming the U.S. immigration policies. The border governor's meeting was actually scheduled to be held in Phoenix previously. However, due to the Mexican governors' planned boycott over the new Arizona immigration law, the meeting was cancelled by the Arizona governor, Jan Brewer. The border governors meeting had seven participants. Six of them were from six different Mexican states and Richardson was the only governor from the U.S. During the meeting, a joint statement was made by the border governors.
