, the Afghanistan government is working to offer jobs with security to Taliban fighters who leave the battlefield. Government policy makers believe that this plan may encourage some fighters to turn in their bombs in exchange for a western style television and a peaceful family life. Apparently, a similar plan was launched in Iraq under the Bush administration and showed some signs of success. In fact, one Japanese Translation Service worker indicated that the Son of Iraq program persuaded large numbers of the Sunni sect away from the insurgency and measurably decreased violence.

At a time when relations have become unpleasant between the Karzai administration and U.S. government, the new program has provided new hope that the allies can cooperate and reach important decisions about ending the war on terror. Nevertheless, in a private interview, a Los Angeles Translation Service insider suggested there was still some doubt that the program will be successful.
